Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz rips Kansas for bizarre Border War hype video
· Yahoo Sports
Missouri beat Kansas, 38-21, in the 2026 edition of the Border War. While this is one of the oldest rivalries in college football, it was just the second time the schools have met since 2011 with Missouri having won the last five matchups overall.

The Tigers came into Friday night’s game with some extra motivation thanks to a strange marketing decision by the Jayhawks earlier this week. On Thursday night the official Kansas football social media accounts posted a video explaining the rivalry’s “roots reach back to the Civil War.” The imagry caught everyone, including Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz, off-guard and most people agreed it went a bit too far.
After Missouri won, Drinkwitz did not hold back saying that he didn’t care if the rivalry continued if they were going to be weird about it.

Eli Drinkwitz’s reaction
"I'm just glad this whole right vs. wrong bullcrap that was started just got settled on a football field…I get there's a past to it but why are we stirring that bullcrap up."

Eli Drinkwitz shares his thoughts on "the turn" the Mizzou/KU rivalry took this week. pic.twitter.com/g5fmQypJx6
“I was disappointed in the rivalry, the turn that it took today,” said Drinkwitz. “I thought that was uncalled for and this is about two teams playing football. Especially on 9/11 when we need more unity than ever before. To be putting some stuff on your screen celebrating… I mean everybody’s got a complicated past. You know? To make that an icon was bizarre to me. I’m just glad that this whole right versus wrong bullcrap that was started just got settled on a football field. ‘Cause it’s a football game.”
“It’s a football game. It’s an American football game. That people love to come watch and cheer for their teams. It’s not any deeper than that. And I get there’s a past, but why are we stirring that bullcrap up. It’s 9/11. This country needs community now more than ever. And I was embarrassed for them to be honest. And that’s why I tried to embarrass them at the end.”
