The Boston Celtics might not be the only team interested in Devin Carter.
In a Q&A with the Sun Sentinel, Miami Heat reporter Ira Winderman explained why nobody should be surprised if the Heat make a move for the 24-year-old.
"Yes, it would [be such a Heat move], considering how the Heat have long brought in sons of those who have been with the organization or those whose parents have had ties with the organization," Winderman wrote. "The Heat have both the salary-cap and roster-space wherewithal to make a move for the son of former Heat guard and assistant coach Anthony Carter.
"The question is why have both the Kings and Hawks both given up on Devin, the No. 13 pick in the 2024 draft who is only 24? That is where the background on those shoulder, ankle, calf and back injuries will come into play. Devin certainly stood as enticing in the 2024 draft coming out of Providence."

The Sacramento Kings selected Carter with the No. 13 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The Kings traded him to the Atlanta Hawks this offseason, and Atlanta waived him Friday.
Through two NBA seasons, Carter has career averages of 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists. A dynamic perimeter defender, he drew comparisons to Derrick Whiteentering the NBA.
As Winderman noted, Carter is the son of Anthony Carter, a 13-year NBA veteran who played for six teams in his career, including the Heat. Anthony Carter was part of Erik Spoelstra's coaching staff between 2018 and 2023.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that the Celtics have shown interest in Carter once he clears waivers. Now, it appears Boston could have some competition.
