The New York Jets were able to take a lot of positives out of their Week 1 victory over the Tennessee Titans 23-10. However, they played a majority of the game without one of their key offensive pieces in rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr., as he went down with an injury and did not return to the game. Cooper left during the first quarter due to the injury and did not return to the game. He finished his NFL debut with one catch on his only target for 30 yards. Pairing him with Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell on the outside should help his progression. However, the injury is believed to be a high ankle sprain, which typically is associated with a multi-week recovery period.
The passing game for the Jets was strong in Week 1, as veteran quarterback Geno Smith completed passes to eight different receivers. They have the depth to absorb a potential multi-week recovery process that a high ankle sprain can take to heal. Losing Cooper after just one target is a bummer, but this does allow others in the offense to take steps forward as a WR3.
Cooper was selected with the 22nd pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after being part of the national champion Indiana Hoosiers.
The New York Jets are at home next Sunday in Week 2 as they host the Green Bay Packers. It will be intriguing to see how far along Omar Cooper Jr. is able to be in his recovery and see if he will be able to suit up for that game.
