Seahawks add a rookie seventh-round guard to practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks opened Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season with a vacant practice squad spot following the promotion of A.J. Finley to the active roster. With the Super Bowl champs returning to practice on Monday, the Seahawks added a seventh-round rookie offensive lineman to the fold.
Per the NFL transaction wire, the Seahawks signed Evan Beernsten, who spent his final collegiate season at Northwestern but spent his previous six years at South Dakota State. Beernsten was taken by the Baltimore Ravens in the seventh round of this year’s draft, but did not get through final roster cuts. Beernsten was almost exclusively a right guard in college, and is an older rookie who will turn 26 years old at the end of this week.

Seattle not being able to sneak Bryce Cabeldue through waivers likely played a factor in Seattle signing a guard. The Seahawks otherwise had no guards on the practice squad, while Christian Haynes and Beau Stephens are the backups on the active roster.
