Defending champion Knicks sign former No. 2 pick, three other free agents

The New York Knicks have signed former Golden State Warriors center James Wiseman to an Exhibit 9 contract, which is a one-year, non-guaranteed training camp deal. The Knicks also announced they were signing three other players to Exhibit 9 contracts on Wednesday.

They currently have two open roster spots, but according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks the team only has enough cap space to keep one player. Training camp opens on September 28th.

Wiseman was the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA draft after Anthony Edwards. As a rookie, Wiseman appeared in 39 games and averaged 11.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocks before tearing his right meniscus. The Warriors went 39-43 and missed the playoffs after losing in the play-in. Wiseman missed the entire ’21-’22 season. After playing 61 games for the Warriors in two-and-a-half years he was traded to the Detroit Pistons.
He signed a two-year deal with the Pacers in 2024 and then tore his Achilles in the first game of the season. He’s played four games over the last two years and just 152 total since he was drafted. Of the 30 players taken in the first round that year, only three have played fewer minutes in the NBA than Wiseman who is still just 25-years-old.

Brown, who won a title with the Denver Nuggets in 2023, played in all 82 games for the Nuggets last season and averaged 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds 2.1 assists and shot 38.5% from three last season.
Eubanks appeared in 42 games for the Sacramento Kings last season averaging 5.2 points and three rebounds a game. Agbaji played for the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets last season. In ’24-’25 he averaged 10.4 points a game for the Raptors.
