The Kansas City Chiefs knew they needed to address the cornerback position entering the 2026 NFL Draft. After trading Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams, a cornerback was a high priority in the first round.

It didn’t take long for the Chiefs to address that need. Kansas City decided to get aggressive by trading up from No. 9 to No. 6 overall with the Cleveland Browns to select LSU standout cornerback Mansoor Delane.
Delane immediately became an impact player for the Chiefs’ defense this season. He made a major impact in his debut game against the Denver Broncos on Monday night.
On the first pass of the game from Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, Delane recorded his first NFL interception. Unfortunately, he also suffered a shoulder injury that knocked him out for the rest of the game. With Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts coming up quickly, a new update has been shared about Delane’s status.

While there was some initial concern about Delane’s status against the Colts on Sunday Night Football, the latest update is all good news. Delane is on track to play in Week 2.
Head coach Andy Reid provided the update. He stated that Delane is back on the practice field and has a good shot at playing against Indianapolis.
“Delane is back, and he’ll be out there (at practice) today doing his thing,” Reid said. “There’s a pretty good chance he’ll be back out there (in Week 2).”
During his college career split between the Virginia Tech Hokies and the LSU Tigers, Delane was a standout. He played three years for Virginia Tech before transferring to finish out his college career with the Tigers. In those seasons, he racked up 191 total tackles, eight interceptions, and 27 defended passes.
In Week 1, the Chiefs made it clear that they’re back as a contender in the AFC. They took care of business against the Broncos by a final score of 31-10. Kansas City will have another chance to make a statement against the Colts this week.
For the Chiefs to live up to their full potential, they’ll need their defensive secondary to play at a high level. Delane is a big part of that potential. Hopefully, he’ll end up being good to go against Indianapolis on Sunday night.
