Arizona sheriff deploys helicopter to save 2 stranded in flooded car

Dramatic video and photos captured an Arizona sheriff deploying a helicopter to rescue two people stranded in a flooded car during heavy rains.
The scene unfolded Wednesday along State Route 238, about 20 miles west of Maricopa, where the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office reported two people in their 80s stuck inside a vehicle, according to AZ Family.

"Reminder, crossing flooded roadways can have dangerous and many times deadly outcomes," the Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook along with a video showing a helicopter arriving at the scene. "MCSO urges the public to be aware of monsoon storms, stay up to date with weather alerts and avoid flooded areas."

A photo released by the Sheriff’s Office showed a first responder climbing on top of the car. Other images shared by the Goodyear Fire Department depicted the occupants of the vehicle being brought to safety.
"Flooding can change road conditions quickly. Avoid SR 238, and if you come across water covering any roadway, don’t risk it," the Goodyear Fire Department said.

"Don’t try to drive through. Turn around and find another way," it added.
The incident happened as heavy rains impacted communities across the Southwest U.S., according to FOX Weather.
"These situations happened extremely quick and are very dangerous. Our pilots and crew have experience with these situations but are still extremely dangerous and difficult," the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said in a statement obtained by FOX Weather.
