The Fever’s current 26-14 record can be tied to the phenomenal performances of Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark. Evidently, both players are among the top candidates for the 2026 WNBA MVP.

In fact, even Sophie Cunningham endorsed Mitchell to win the honor. But did that mean she doesn’t want Clark to win the award?

Sophie Cunningham clarifies her MVP take on Kelsey Mitchell

During the latest episode of the ‘No Hesitation’ podcast, Cunningham explained how her support for Mitchell was taken out of context by Clark’s devoted fanbase.

“I just think it’s crazy because I have two great players on my team, and I’m going to hype both of them up like I could make an argument that Kelsey should be MVP, I can make a big argument that CC should be MVP, and we totally hype both of them up,” Cunningham said.

She added, “But you know how the internet works, so they just wanted to clip whatever, but yeah, that was actually psychotic, but that gives you a little bit of a taste of like what the WNBA media is like, and so that’s why we’re starting this so people can get some good media from the W.”

While Clark is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in the W, at times, her fans jump to conclusions. This certainly happened when Cunningham hyped Mitchell as an MVP candidate.

But she has made it as clear as possible that she hasn’t picked sides between her two teammates and would be more than happy for either to take home the illustrious award.
