The Cleveland Guardians earned a 5-3 victory against the Athletics on Friday. Not only did the Guardians take sole possession of first place in the American League Central with the victory, but star third baseman Jose Ramirez recorded his 1,000th career RBI. After the game, Ramirez discussed the achievement and reminded everyone that winning is still his primary goal, per Mason Horodyski of News 5 Cleveland.

“I thank God for that opportunity to play here in this organization and being able to achieve that, but most important part is that we’re able to win today and because you guys know what I really want to do here which is win,” Ramirez said via interpreter.

Ramirez’s 1,000th RBI came on a solo home run.

He’s endured an overall difficult season. Ramirez missed time due to injury earlier in the year, and his performance has been underwhelming while on the field. The 34-year-old is beginning to find his rhythm at the plate, though. He now has four hits and three RBI over his past two games.

The Guardians have a number of young and talented players on their roster. If Cleveland is going to make a deep postseason run, though, the ball club will need Ramirez to lead the way. Ramirez is hoping to finish the season strong.

The Guards will look to hold onto their lead in the AL Central on Saturday as they play the Athletics once again. First pitch for the ball game is scheduled for 6:10 PM ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
