Max Holloway Mocks Justin Gaethje’s Claim of Leaving Every UFC Opponent Battered

Khabib Nurmagomedov once said Justin Gaethje hits like a truck. Looking at the condition of some of his opponents after their fights, it’s hard to argue with him. The full force of Gaethje’s power was on display again recently when Ilia Topuria suggested that the American may have tampered with his gloves during their June 14 bout.

Topuria pointed to the immense damage he suffered in the fight, including two broken orbital bones and a shattered septum, while making the accusation. Gaethje naturally pushed back on the claims, calling out Topuria for making excuses and telling him to do better.

He addressed the accusations again while speaking to Joe Andaloro, saying, “I’m just going to enjoy being the champ. People don’t believe that. I’ve done that to everybody’s face that I’ve fought.”

Gaethje has even joked about having “bricks” in his gloves because of the brutality he displays with his hands. Just look at the faces of Tony Ferguson, Rafael Fiziev, Eddie Alvarez, Michael Johnson, Dustin Poirier and Topuria, and you’ll understand what ‘The Highlight’ was talking about. However, Max Holloway doesn’t seem to buy into it.

Given Gaethje’s track record of violent knockouts and all-out wars, it’s hard to argue against his reputation. But that wasn’t exactly the case at UFC 300. Holloway and Gaethje collided in an all-time classic on the main card for the BMF title, producing one of the most memorable finishes in UFC history.

Their BMF title fight went almost the full distance before ending with just one second left on the clock. Holloway landed a brutal knockout that sent Gaethje face-first onto the canvas. Despite going nearly 25 minutes with ‘The Highlight,’ however, Holloway didn’t absorb much damage himself.

 

Holloway recently trolled Gaethje over that fact, responding to the American’s claim about battering his opponents by sharing his UFC 300 aftermath portrait, where he had almost no facial damage.

While Gaethje has yet to respond, Holloway certainly has a point. The damage Gaethje suffered in the fight prevented him from facing Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title next, while Holloway earned a shot at the featherweight crown against Topuria at UFC 308.

Since then, though, Gaethje has returned to his brutal best. He battered Rafael Fiziev at UFC 313, stopped Paddy Pimblett at UFC 324 to claim interim gold, and most recently beat Topuria at UFC Freedom 250.

Meanwhile, Holloway lost to Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 before welcoming Conor McGregor back to the Octagon in an infamous TKO finish at UFC 329.
