‘Please fix the Nets’: Fans react as Pep Guardiola brings soccer to Brooklyn Nets in NBA crossover with Jordi Fernandez

Pep Guardiola has sent Brooklyn Nets fans into a frenzy after the legendary football manager visited the team’s facility and met head coach Jordi Fernandez.

Guardiola visited the Nets’ training facilities on Friday, September 18, catching up with Fernandez and discussing coaching, leadership and team culture.
The meeting brought together two coaches from very different sports who share a strong mutual admiration. Fernandez has previously described Guardiola as “the best coach in the world” and even suggested he could be a Hall of Fame coach if he ever moved into basketball.

The Brooklyn Nets made sure Guardiola did not leave empty-handed, presenting him with a personalised jersey featuring his name and his iconic number 4.
The pair have spoken about their respective coaching methods, leadership and locker-room management on several occasions, making the meeting a natural crossover between football and basketball.
Guardiola is also a well-known NBA fan and has attended games in the past, including Boston Celtics games during the 2024 NBA Finals.
Fans immediately had plenty to say about the unexpected meeting.
One supporter wrote, “It must have been an amazing experience for Coach Fernandez to have a visit from legendary soccer figure Pep Guardiola”
Another added, “My goat linking up with my favourite basketball team 😭This is peak”
A third joked, “If he can fix the Nets, not getting a UCL with Bayern will be forgiven”
The calls for Guardiola to take a more active role continued, with one fan demanding, “GET PEP A CONTRACT ASAPPPPPP LET HIM RUN SOME PLAYSSSS 💯‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️”
Others were less convinced, warning, “Don’t let him stay too long, he might get Fernandez sacked”
The similarities between the two coaches also caught attention, with one fan saying, “They look like brothers 😅”
Another celebrated the long-awaited crossover: “Finally the crossover has happened after all the pep jokes about jordi haha 😀🙌🏼🏀⚽️”
One supporter simply imagined Guardiola’s football philosophy being brought to basketball: “Tiki taka on basketball 🤣”
And perhaps the clearest message came from another fan: “Please fix the Nets”
For now, Guardiola’s visit was simply a meeting between two highly respected coaches. But with Fernandez continuing to build his Nets project, the football ideas exchanged in Brooklyn have certainly given fans something to talk about.
