Houston Texans will be without one of their biggest offensive weapons when they host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The absence leaves C.J. Stroud and the Houston offense with an important adjustment to make in Week 2.
Aaron Wilson reported Friday that the Texans are dealing with a setback involving their star wide receiver, with the team already preparing a committee approach to replace him. Wilson also reported that his status for next week’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts is still being determined.

Wilson added that Collins’ “status for next week vs. Colts [is] still being determined,” leaving his availability for Houston’s Week 3 matchup uncertain.
Collins opened the season with seven catches for 75 yards and a touchdown in Houston’s 36-31 loss to Buffalo. He has also been one of the Texans’ most productive offensive players over the past three seasons.
The injury occurred during Wednesday’s practice, with Collins subsequently missing Houston’s final two practices of the week. The Texans officially listed him as out on their final injury report.
Texans turn to committee approach without Nico Collins
Houston will have to spread Collins’ workload among several available offensive players. Kayshon Boutte, Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel are among the receivers who could see increased opportunities against Cincinnati.
Boutte could be particularly important after joining Houston late in the offseason. The Texans already lost Jayden Higgins to a season-ending ACL injury, leaving the receiving corps with fewer established options behind Collins.
Stroud completed passes to 11 different players in the season opener, giving Houston several options to work with. The Texans will now look for that distribution to continue as they try to secure their first win of the season against Cincinnati.
