Texas remains at No. 1 in both polls

The Texas Longhorns weren’t punished for a lackluster 30-6 win over the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday in Austin as a poor Week 3 slate across college football afforded other top teams limited opportunities to make up votes on the nation’s No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll released on Sunday.

So the Longhorns head to Knoxville for next weekend’s SEC opener atop both polls for a second straight week. Tennessee moved up one spot to No. 14 in the AP poll and up one spot to No. 13 in the Coaches Poll after SMU lost to Louisville, 41-31, in one of the weekend’s three ranked matchups.

Texas received 58 of the 69 first-place votes cast in the AP Poll as Indiana received four first-place votes although the Hoosiers dropped one spot to No. 5 because Ole Miss jumped four spots to No. 4 after its 32-24 win over then-No. 7 LSU.

In the Coaches Poll, the Longhorns were less of a consensus pick with the No. 2 Bulldogs secured 16 first-place votes and the Hoosiers landed nine.
