A’ja Wilson Made WNBA History With a Milestone No Player Has Reached Before

Just a few days ago, A’ja Wilson faced criticism for missing the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Now, the 30-year-old center is in the spotlight after adding another accolade to her impressive résumé. 

In the game against the Seattle Storm, Wilson reached a feat that no other player had achieved in WNBA history. The Las Vegas Aces center became the first player to record more than one season with 1,000 points.

Wilson reached the 1,000-point mark in the second quarter of the game against the Storm with 3:39 remaining. The Aces center helped her team secure its 29th win, scoring 30 points and adding 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. 

The 30-year-old center first reached the milestone in 2024. She became the first player in league history to reach 1,000 points in a single season. The South Carolina native scored 1,021 points that season and reached the milestone in just 37 games. 

A’ja Wilson Also Tops the Chart for Most 30-Point Games This Season

Apart from reaching 1,000 points in a season for the second time in her career, Wilson also recorded her 12th 30-point game in a win over the Storm.

Wilson now has 12 30-point games in the 2026 WNBA season. The 30-year-old center is followed by Kelsey Mitchell, who has nine 30-point games, while Caitlin Clark, Kahleah Copper and Marina Mabrey have six each.

The Aces have two regular-season games remaining this year. Wilson and the Aces will face the Los Angeles Sparks and then the Phoenix Mercury on September 22 and September 24, respectively.

Records and Wilson have never been distant. She is the first player to record at least 35 points, 10 rebounds and five steals in a single game. The 30-year-old is also the first player to record at least 30 points and 20 rebounds in the same game. 

Following Wilson’s historic performance against the Storm, Aces head coach Becky Hammon also acknowledged her achievement.

Hammon said, “She just kind of shot her free throws like nothing happened. Last time, they stopped the game. It’s still a big deal. You’re right, you don’t wanna just skip over it… She’s been incredibly efficient the last four years.”

Earlier this month, Kelsey Mitchell surpassed A’ja Wilson’s single-season scoring record and now has 1,034 points. However, the Aces center can still reclaim the record, as she currently has 1,021 points (the same total she recorded in 2024) in the 2026 season, with two regular-season games and the playoffs remaining. 

It will be interesting to see whether Mitchell or Wilson finishes the 2026 WNBA season with the most points and sets a new league record!
