Bears made the worst kind of history in Week 2 loss vs. Vikings

· Yahoo Sports

The Chicago Bears offense made history again. However, this is not the kind of history Chicago wants to be making.

After scoring 59 points in their season opener, the Bears only had three points in their 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. That 56-point decrease in points from Week 1 to Week 2 is the most by any team since 1973.

There is no question that the weather played a factor in the decrease in points. Brian Flores’ defense always provides a challenge, so the combination of the two did not help the Bears in this game. However, Chicago also shot themselves in the foot throughout the entire game with seven penalties in the first half and two costly turnovers.

The Bears offense also suffered a massive blow when quarterback Caleb Williams suffered a non-contact hamstring injury while attempting to get a rushing touchdown to give his team the lead late in the fourth quarter. They will now be going into their next game against the Philadelphia Eagles, most likely, without Williams. If he does miss the game, it would be the first time in his NFL career he has missed a game.

Chicago will need more than a field goal if they are going to beat the Eagles, or any team for that matter. Tyson Bagent would take over as the starter in Williams’ absence. In his four starts as a rookie back in 2023, Chicago’s offense averaged 19 points with two wins and two losses.
