MSU hockey opens season ranked in top five of USCHO.com poll

Michigan State hockey will officially open the season ranked in the top five for another season.

The preseason USCHO.com rankings have been released, with Michigan State coming in at No. 3 in the country. The Spartans are sitting behind only two teams in the preseason poll: Denver (No. 1) and in-state rival Michigan (No. 2).
Michigan State has been a regular in the top 10, and really top five, the last few seasons of the USCHO.com poll. The Spartans are expected to again contend for a national championship this season, with this preseason ranking suggesting that as well.
The Spartans will open the 2026-27 season on October 9 against Northern Michigan from Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich. The week before that, Michigan State will host No. 12 Boston College Eagles in an exhibition game.
