Clemson, Georgia Cancel 4-Game Series in Football
· Yahoo Sports
Clemson and Georgia have mutually agreed to cancel the upcoming 4 game series between the two schools according to reporting by the Athens Banner-Herald. The news was discovered via an open records request this week, though the agreement was signed back in March. The Tigers and Bulldogs planned to play each other 4 times starting in 2029 with games split between both schools.

This news isn’t that surprising. Clemson entered into a 12 year agreement with Notre Dame followed by the ACC announcing a move to 9 conference games each year. Clemson’s annual rivalry against South Carolina and the inherent desire to play a cupcake to get 7 home games meant any other P4 out of conference games were unlikely. Somehow teams are allergic to playing 12 P4 games.
Frankly this sucks. As we talked about when the Notre Dame series was announced, these moves now are all about money. The Notre Dame series is nice, but Clemson – Notre Dame doesn’t have the tradition of Clemson – UGA or a host of other potential OOC matchups. Clemson “needs” 7 home games a year, that’s impossible to do with all P4 OOC opponents, especially in years when Clemson will only have 4 home conference games.
At this point it is hard to say when, if ever, Clemson will play UGA again. Until there are drastic changes in conference scheduling, or the Notre Dame series is cancelled, the powers that be won’t see space in the schedule for UGA. And it is a real shame. The recent revival of this series was great and something that should remain in college football.
