Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald says QB Sam Darnold will practice on Wednesday
· Yahoo Sports
The Seattle Seahawks are 2-0 thanks in part to the strikingly solid play of backup quarterback Drew Lock, who has filled in admirably for Sam Darnold since the fifth play of their season opening game. Darnold is dealing with a unique soft tissue injury that has made it hard to diagnose a concrete timeline for his return, but it seems as if it may be sooner than later.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon and gave a quick update for his starting quarterback. Macdonald confirmed Darnold will participate in Wednesday's practice, per ESPN's Brady Henderson. Although Darnold won't take every rep on Wednesday, the Seahawks' plan is to "ramp him up" throughout the week. Seattle's hope is to have a decision on whether or not Darnold can play against the Washington Commanders in Week 3 by Friday. The fact they are even considering it a possibility is encouraging for his recovery.

If Darnold isn't available, the Seahawks are more than comfortable rolling with Drew Lock for another week. Seattle has a favorable matchup against the Commanders, who will be without their starting quarterback as well. Personally, I am hoping the Seahawks play it safe with Darnold. There is no need to rush him back to play the team from the "other" Washington. Seattle should be able to handle the Commanders with Drew Lock under center.
As for other Seahawks related injury news, the team is not opening running back Zach Charbonnet's 21-day practice window this week. He will still have to miss two more games per IR rules, but he could have started practicing today if the team felt he was ready to go.
