UND's Avery Scott receives TRO extension as eligibility case continues

Sep. 24—GRAND FORKS — UND defensive back Avery Scott received an extension of a temporary restraining order Thursday in Grand Forks County District Court as his case seeking a fifth season of eligibility against the NCAA moves ahead.

Thursday morning's hearing regarding a preliminary injunction in the case was heard by Judge Jay Knudson.
According to online court documents, the final action taken Thursday was the court granting the plaintiff's motion for an extension of a TRO and a motion for leave to file a reply brief.
The Fighting Hawks, ranked No. 7 in the FCS Top 25 and 3-1 on the season, play at Indiana State at noon Saturday in Terre Haute.
UND could have three players with TRO status competing in the game as Scott, Jonnie Wiltshire and Jy Martin each have TRO status from the court in cases against the NCAA's eligibility rules.
UND head coach Eric Schmidt said Monday that Wiltshire's court date for a preliminary injunction is Oct. 1, while Martin, who hasn't played in the team's first four games of the season, received TRO status earlier this week and his PI court date is unknown.
Scott has six pass tackles and two pass breakups this season.
