In the latest story of criminals posing as NFL players in order to dupe unsuspecting people out of their hard earned money, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Eli Heidenreich has seen his name linked to a recent case according to Pennsylvania State Police.

In July, two women, a mother and daughter from Avella, Pennsylvania were scammed by someone who was posing as Steelers player Heidenreich, and apparently the scammer took advantage of the victim’s Steelers fandom, when the 20-year-old victim began an online exchange with someone claiming to be Heidenreich.

After the conversations became more frequent, the scammer offered to set the daughter up with an all-access pass to a game, instructing her to send an email to another account pretending to belong to Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan.

The scammers even went so far as to include a headshot of the GM with what appears to be an official signature in order to convince the victim to make several transactions to obtain a Pittsburgh Steelers BRR Meetup Access Card, which doesn’t even actually exist.

Once the mother learned that she was the victim of a scam, she says the daughter was completely devastated, especially since she had saved up the money to buy the pass.

“She thought he was her friend,” the victim’s mother told our partners at WPXI. “Even after the policemen were here, she still was not sure it was fake”

According to the police report, the scam involved several financial transactions to the tune of $2,000. Police have not identified any suspects at this time.

A native of Pittsburgh and a recent Navy graduate, Heidenreich was the 230th overall pick and the final selection by the Steelers in the 2026 NFL Draft which took place in Pittsburgh last April.
