Three stars from Ohio State vs. Illinois in Columbus Saturday

Ohio State football's stars showed up in its 42-19 victory against Illinois on Saturday, including wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who had arguably his best performance ever. This week, the three stars of the game are Smith, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin, and Illinois running back Aiden Laughery.

Three-Star of Ohio State vs. Illinois

Jeremiah Smith was able to take advantage of confusion in the Illinois secondary and have one of the best performances of his career. He caught 12 passes for 217 yards and had several highlight-worthy moments in Saturday's victory. On top of that, he had a personal-best four touchdowns. He is now only one touchdown behind former Buckeye Chris Olave.

Two-Star of Ohio State vs. Illinois

Overshadowed by Smith's historic performance was the play of the man throwing him the ball. Julian Sayin completed 27-of-36 passes for 367 yards and four touchdowns, all to Smith. Shockingly, Sayin also provided some yards with his feet by getting 29 rushing yards, including a 7-yard touchdown run with 15 seconds remaining in the first half.

One-Star of Ohio State vs. Illinois

Illinois was able to produce 462 yards of offense in the game, and 114 of them belonged to running back Aiden Laughery. Laughery had a couple of breakout runs that helped the Illini offense get the chains moving, getting 113 yards overall on the ground. He also had one catch for a yard.

Ohio State won its Big Ten opener, and the performances of their stars were a big reason why. Now, on to Iowa.
