With the Philadelphia Phillies looking to make one final postseason push, the team’s playoff fate has been revealed after the last game of the regular season on Sunday. After the Phillies suffered a 12-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, the team would come back on Sunday and beat them, 7-3, to end the season, clinching a playoff spot and finding out their next opponent.

According to MLB insider Jeff Passan at ESPN, Philadelphia’s win over Tampa Bay helped them lock up the last wild card National League spot, as the team will face their NL East rival, the Atlanta Braves.
“The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 7-3, to secure the final National League playoff spot. The Phillies play Atlanta on Tuesday,” Passan wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “The Houston Astros are ahead, 7-0, as they look to lock up the American League West title and host a wild-card series against Chicago.”

For any Phillies fan, there was no denying that they were holding their breath ahead of the final game as the team was struggling to hold their spot in the wild-card picture. Before the regular-season finale on Sunday against the Rays, Philadelphia had lost the three games prior, which could’ve spiraled into them falling out of the postseason picture.
However, Philadelphia would pull through and beat Tampa Bay, as the Arizona Diamondbacks were the first team out of the wild card bubble, one-and-a-half-games back of the Phillies. Philadelphia’s win on Sunday was an emphatic one, helped by Bryson Stott, Kyle Schwarber, and J.T. Realmuto, who started the scoring, and Bryce Harper’s home run in the fifth to continue the explosiveness.
At any rate, the Phillies hope to carry the momentum into the postseason matchup against Atlanta on Tuesday.
