Tip of the cap to Pekin's Dean Moran, the most recent champ in the weekly Illinois football prediction contest.
Dean just missed the exact score on the Illinois-Ohio State game. He had the Buckeyes total correct, 42. And missed the Illinois total of 19 by two, going with 17.
Moran, a past winner, edged Champaign's Russ Lake by one point. Russ went with Ohio State 41-17, missing by only three.
Many others got close to the numbers. When Illinois landed on the awkward 19, a perfect score became unlikely.
It is going to happen. Maybe this week when Illinois hosts Purdue for homecoming. Many good vibes in the building with the return of former Illini defensive back turned astronaut Mike Hopkins. And longtime Marching Illini director Gary Smith is being honored at halftime.
