Sean McVay apologizes for cutting press conference short after Rams’ loss to Broncos

The Los Angeles Rams suffered from regrettable late-game execution in their baffling 30-26 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football.
Rams head coach Sean McVay also regrets how he executed his postgame press conference.

McVay followed a dejected Matthew Stafford at the podium and, according to the Rams’ official YouTube stream, took questions for less than two minutes.
“Sean McVay ducked out of his press conference before Rams media could get into it, only 10 minutes after the final whistle,” Nate Atkins of The Athletic relayed Sunday night. “Not sure I have ever seen that in this league before.”

Artis Twyman, the Rams’ VP of Communications, disputed Atkins’s characterization.
“Again Nathan, I will not let you get on here and not represent the truth,” Twyman wrote in response to Atkins’s X posts. “[In] the press box, they announce that media that want to attend the post game news conference, leave at the five-minute mark. You chose to stay until the end of the game, which made you late.
“Coach was already in there waiting on you, and then he left as you were arriving,” Twyman wrote in a separate post. “Please, take some responsibility in the matter. How long should he have waited for you, sir?”
Atkins responded that “two minutes, five minutes, any could’ve worked,” and pushed back on Twyman blaming the media:

After all of that, McVay took full accountability to open his media availability on Monday.
“Sorry that I missed you guys yesterday,” McVay said, according Atkins. “There was a misunderstanding with some of the timing. […] I understand my role and responsibility is to talk, whether it’s after a win or if we don’t get the result we want.”
McVay, traditionally a media darling, knows better than to add petty beef to his increasingly full plate. The Rams, the overwhelming preseason Super Bowl favorites, are off to a disappointing 1-2 start. It won’t get any easier, either.
Los Angeles has a date with the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 4—the Eagles have owned the McVay-led Rams—followed by a clash with the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football on Oct. 12.
