Yet, on the years-long journey to become champions, Hart has earned his place as a beloved member of the roster.
From the moment he was traded to the Knicks during the 2022-23 season, he earned the respect of fans who love a hard-working, gritty blue-collar player. However, being a physical, max-effort player comes with injuries. In the case of the 31-year-old, his hands have taken a beating.

Last year, he needed to tape up his right hand due to a finger injury, and the fact that it is again taped up in training camp was noticed by NY Newsday Knicks reporter Steve Popper on Tuesday. After the post went viral on X, Hart responded to the news with some surprising information about his gruesome-looking right ring finger.
“Just so I don’t have to answer this question anymore. There is no other surgery for me to get besides a joint replacement,” Hart revealed. “If I get a joint replacement, I can’t play with it, and my career is over. So it will be wrapped up until I retire.”
The injury is on his shooting hand and may have had an effect on his shot late last season and in the playoffs. However, fortunately for Hart, he is a player who has become very valuable for his all-around skills, instead of his ability to put the ball in the basket.
Hart has two years left on his current Knicks contract. However, the 2027-28 season is a $22 million team option, and he is hoping to get a multi-year extension before then.
