Reese was assessed a technical foul in the Dream's 93-75 Game 2 win over the Washington Mystics on Wednesday, Sept. 30, to complete a first-round series sweep and advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2018. Reese finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two assists in the win.
She was also called for four personal fouls during the chippy matchup that featured a combined 53 personal fouls, just four short of tying the WNBA playoff record for combined fouls (57).
With 4:08 remaining in the fourth quarter, Reese denied Mystics forward Michaela Onyenwere at the basket for her third block of the matchup. Reese recovered the defensive rebound and then turned to exchange some words to Onyenwere, who swatted the ball out of Reese's hand. Reese was teed up for taunting.
Reese finished the regular season with seven technical fouls, narrowly avoiding a one-game suspension assessed by the league upon receiving their eighth technical foul. The count resets during the postseason.
The No. 4 Dream will meet the No. 8 seed New York Liberty in the semifinal round, which expands to a best-of-five (2-2-1) series. Atlanta will have homecourt advantage over New York as the higher seed. The Liberty advanced to the final four after sweeping the No. 1 seed Minnesota Lynx.
