The Athletic has spoken to Portnoy since the decision was made, with the 49-year-old blaming Ohio State head coach Ryan Day following a number of complaints about the controversial figure to Fox Sports.

“Ohio State has relentlessly complained to Fox,” Portnoy said.

This is a decision that has gone down extremely well on social media, with fans delighted to see the back of Portnoy from their screens. However, there is now the matter of Pat McAfee’s college football show on ESPN, which a number of fans also want to see the back of.

McAfee has become one of the biggest presenters in the world of American football, with appearances in both the NFL and college football scene. Not everyone is pleased to see McAfee so frequently on their screens, though.

After seeing Portnoy’s sudden departure from the Fox Sports network, one fan replied: ‘Now do McAfee….’

‘Good! Now ESPN can get rid of Pat Mcafee,’ said another.

Portnoy has proven a controversial figure over the years and his opinions on sport have rarely been accepted well by fans. It has become apparent that these fans have been delighted to see Day stand up against the influencer.

‘Finally watchable now, didn’t bring anything to the show,’ replied one relieved fan.

‘I don’t watch Big Noon explicitly because of him and it’s not because of Michigan,’ added another.

Portnoy has placed the entirety of the blame on the Buckeyes, with the 49-year-old insisting he and Fox Sports maintain a good relationship.

‘Next up Pat McAfee!’ responded another.

Another said: ‘Now do Patty Mac at ESPN. I miss college game day.’
