Cristo Fernandez made his USL Championship debut for El Paso Locomotive on Saturday, Oct. 3, coming on as an 82nd-minute sub in the club's 3-1 loss to Lexington SC.

The 35-year-old, best known for playing Dani Rojas in the hit Apple TV show "Ted Lasso," signed with El Paso in May, but had yet to appear in a league match for the club.

Fernandez had made one prior appearance for El Paso, coming on as a late sub in a USL Cup match against New Mexico United on July 12.

Fernández played in the academy of his hometown side Tecos FC before turning to acting after a serious knee injury at age 15.

The Mexico native is attempting a comeback nearly 20 years after his career seemingly ended. After going on trial with the Chicago Fire's reserve side, he eventually signed for El Paso.

“Fútbol has always been a huge part of my life and identity, and no matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart,” Fernández said after signing with El Paso.

“I’m incredibly grateful to El Paso Locomotive FC — the club, coaches, staff, and especially my teammates — for opening the doors and giving me the opportunity to compete from day one."
