The Arsenal boss stressed that the club, staff and players remain aligned over the direction they are taking and says she feels support from everyone.

“All I know is that the last couple of days, we’ve been together as a group, a club, a team, with support aligned on our direction,” Slegers said.

“Of course this result is disappointing but I’m here, full of energy, I care a lot for the club and for the players and I see it in perspective.”

The defeat comes just before the international break, which Slegers believes could provide a useful reset for her squad.

“Of course it’s good with the international break coming up,” she added.

“I think it’s good for the players, they get a change of environment, some new energy, play their football elsewhere, and come back in with new energy.

“During the international window there will be a big review of our season so far.”

Arsenal were also dealt a further blow with Mariona Caldentey forced off through injury.

Slegers revealed the early indications were that the forward had suffered a hamstring problem, although the full extent is not yet known.

“I have to check, but they have assessed her now and I think it was her hamstring and it didn’t look good, didn’t feel good,” she said.

“But I’m not sure what the exact timeline will be, the exact assessment, we’ll have to wait.”
