Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are having an excellent start to the season. The team has won all 3 of their games so far, and are one of five teams to be still unbeaten.
Their last game was against the Miami Dolphins, who they beat with a score of 24-10. In that game, Mahomes was involved in a controversial incident with Dolphins pass rusher Chop Robinson. An update on the defender has now been issued.

Dolphins defender not fined for Patrick Mahomes hit
In the game against the Dolphins, Robinson was flagged for roughing the passer late in the third quarter of the game. It occurred with the Chiefs leading 14-10 and facing third-and-9 from their own 5-yard line. Mahomes released a pass intended for Rashee Rice as Robinson closed in, striking Mahomes in the chest and driving him to the turf while landing on top of him. Robinson attempted to extend his arms to break the fall and did not contact Mahomes’ head or neck, nor was the hit late.

Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn ImagesOfficials ruled that Robinson applied his body weight to the quarterback, a violation under NFL Rule 12, Section 2, Article 11, which requires defenders to avoid landing with all or most of their weight on a passer and to brace their fall when possible. The incomplete pass would have forced a punt, but the 15-yard penalty and automatic first down sustained a 13-play, 80-yard drive that ended with Harrison Butker’s field goal, making the score 17-10. Closer video footage of the incident led many to believe that Mahomes sold the fall to influence the decision.
However, the NFL has not fined him in its Week 3 accountability report. The league fined other players for quarterback-related infractions that week, including late hits and body-weight violations. The report did not explain why Robinson was omitted from the list. It could be due to the fact that many have reviewed that the play lacked clear intent or avoidable dangerous technique beyond the on-field penalty.
Robinson talked about the incident after the game and tried to explain himself.
Chop Robinson explains Patrick Mahomes hit
After the game, Robinson explained his version of the incident. He said, “I’m honestly not too sure, but either way, that’s what they called, so that’s what we got to play on. Next play.” He added, “Just put my hands out earlier, but it’s a football play. That’s what the refs called, so I had to move on from it. That’s what I could do better on that play, but that’s what they called, and that’s what it is.”
He further concluded that there was nothing else he could do at the moment, “Of course we wanted to keep them in the end zone, but again, that’s what they called. There’s nothing I could do about it, just play the next play, and just try to stop them, get the ball back to the offense.”
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will now move on to the next game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
