Norway star Erling Haaland has sparked injury fears after requesting a substitution in a UEFA Nations League loss to Portugal on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Haaland signaled to the bench that he needed to be taken off in the 67th minute of a 2-1 loss in Porto.

The Manchester City striker was seen limping on the pitch before he was taken off, leading to concerns over his status ahead of the return of club play this weekend.

Speaking after the match, Norway coach Ståle Solbakken said he and Haaland had spoken about workload concerns after the striker started all four games of the international window.

"He was tired against Wales," Solbakken said. "That's why we had a heart-to-heart conversation [before the Portugal game]. We went through the possible options.

"He might have played the last 45 minutes against Portugal. That was a discussion. But he has very bad vibes and feelings about it. I am very pleased that he managed to pull out 60 good minutes."

Solbakken did not elaborate on whether Haaland had suffered any type of injury.

Haaland played the full 90 minutes in Norway's first three UEFA Nations League matches before his substitution against Portugal. After an opening-game win over Denmark, Norway lost its final three games of the window, including two losses to Portugal.

Haaland scored three goals across Norway's first two matches, then failed to find the net in his country's final two games.

Manchester City will hope to have Haaland available for its first game after the international break, a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday, Oct. 11.

The game promises to be a highly contentious affair, as it will be the first match City plays after it was found guilty of all charges related to financial rule violations.

Haaland has seven goals in six games for City this season.
