The Golden State Warriors opened their account in preseason with a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, 104-101, with Keaton Wagler dealing the decisive blow late in the fourth quarter. There were two lottery picks who got their time to shine on Sunday, with Yaxel Lendeborg also debuting for the Dubs.

Both of them endured understandable growing pains. Wagler, despite scoring the game-winner, had a rough shooting night, making just three of his 15 field-goal attempts (1-11 from deep). Meanwhile, Lendeborg finished with just four points, nine rebounds, and three assists on 1-6 shooting from the field — with Warriors head coach Steve Kerr urging the 11th pick of the 2026 NBA Draft to be a more aggressive scorer.

Warriors star Stephen Curry also had his say, and he encouraged Lendeborg to find that balance between integrating himself into the team’s offensive system all while knowing when to get his.

“The balance for a young guy who’s expected to have an impact is to walk that fine line of aggressiveness but being okay knowing you’re gonna make mistakes and not getting afraid of it. Being able to move on to the next play. But we don’t want anything passive,” Curry told reporters after the game, via Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area.

Lendeborg is a selfless player who has no qualms about doing whatever he can to help the team win. But this Warriors team, especially amid Jimmy Butler and Kristaps Porzingis’ injury troubles, needs more scoring pop, and they expect Lendeborg to not just help on the defensive end and to keep the ball moving, but to put the ball through the hoop himself.

As a 24-year-old rookie, Lendeborg is not going to be given much time. He is expected to make an impact from day one. And at the very least, Curry sees that he is already making his mark.

“I think he’s been answering that call early,” Curry added.
