The New England Patriotshave seen plenty of the Seattle Seahawks over the last eight months, and DeMario Douglas has heard plenty from one of them. In an interview with Jordan Schultz, the Patriots wide receiver was asked which defensive back talks the most trash. Douglas did not take long to land on Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon.

“He really be the ones that I know. Like, Witherspoon. Spoon, yep,” Douglas told Schultz. “I really like his game and how he talk trash. I mess with it.”

Douglas made it clear the chirping does not bother him. If anything, he enjoys the challenge that comes with it.

“I know I’m on the other side of the ball, but it’s like, yeah, Pop, it’s going to be me and you all game. I like that,” Douglas said. “We finna go at it all game. I’ll probably give it to Spoon for sure. Yeah, Spoon’s my guy.”

The two have shared the field twice in 2026. Seattle beat New England 29-13 in Super Bowl LX in February, then edged the Patriots 13-10 in Seattle in the 2026 season opener on Sept. 9.

Schultz added that he had asked Witherspoon whether he is ever not talking during a game. According to Schultz, Witherspoon described it as simply being authentic to himself as a Florida native and a defensive back. Schultz said it reads less like typical trash talk and more like a sign of how much Witherspoon loves the game, while also serving as a way to throw receivers off rhythm.

Douglas has not been thrown off much lately. He caught two touchdown passes from Drake Maye in last Sunday’s 45-17 rout of the Las Vegas Raiders, including a 35-yarder that opened the scoring. It was the first multi-touchdown game of his career.

The win pushed New England to 3-2 after the season-opening loss in Seattle. The Patriots have since found their footing, with Maye bouncing back in a Week 4 win over the Buffalo Bills before the offense erupted against Las Vegas.

Douglas will not see Witherspoon again unless the two teams meet in the postseason, but the respect between them is clear. For Douglas, the trash talk is part of the fun.
