Pensioners get an early payday as SASSA rewrites the November schedule
· The South African

Older Persons Grant recipients will receive their November payments earlier than planned, after the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) revised its payment schedule for the month.
The change means pensioners will be paid before the month even begins. National Treasury approved the revised schedule, and under the new arrangement, the Older Persons Grant will be paid on Friday, 30 October, followed by the Disability Grant on Monday, 2 November and the Children’s Grants on Tuesday, 3 November.

Why SASSA moved the dates
The shift comes after a clash with the upcoming local government elections. Elections will be held on 4 November, a day President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a public holiday nationwide.
SASSA originally announced its 2026/27 payment dates in March, with Older Persons Grants set for 3 November, Disability Grants for 4 November and Children’s Grants for 5 November. That original disability grant date fell on election day, prompting the agency to consult stakeholders on a new schedule.
SASSA spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi said the changes followed consultations aimed at keeping payments efficient and secure, with minimal disruption during the election period. Letsatsi added that the agency remains committed to ensuring beneficiaries receive their grants “in an orderly and reliable manner.”
What pensioners will receive
The earlier date does not affect the amount older persons will receive. The Older Persons Grant pays R2 400 per month for recipients 60 and over.
Pensioners who also receive other grants linked to their accounts benefit from the early date too. Older persons and disability grant recipients receive all grants linked to their account first, while other grant recipients get paid one or two days later.
Since the payment falls on a Friday, grant recipients can access their money over the weekend rather than waiting for the new week.
Watch out for fake schedules
With older schedules still circulating online, grant recipients should take care when checking dates. An image showing the previous 3, 4 and 5 November schedule is now outdated.
SASSA has encouraged beneficiaries to rely on its official communication channels and to be wary of misinformation about social assistance.
Anyone who has not received their funds within two to three business days of their expected date should contact SASSA directly on 0800 60 10 11 or visit their nearest SASSA office.
