Ex-NFL quarterback reaches tentative settlement after alleged 2025 assault

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has reached a tentative settlement agreement in a civil lawsuit filed by a truck driver he allegedly assaulted in October 2025.

Sanchez, 39, was taken to an Indianapolis hospital and later arrested in October 2025 after an alleged incident with a 69-year-old truck driver. The trucker told police he used pepper spray and a knife to defend himself against Sanchez after the ex-QB allegedly attacked him.

Sanchez faced several charges, including felony battery resulting in serious injury, following his arrest, plus the civil lawsuit that has now been tentatively settled. Once the settlement is finalized and signed, the truck driver's lawyers are expected to file a motion to dismiss the civil case. Sanchez has a hearing set for his criminal case on Nov. 9.

Sanchez, who worked for Fox Sports at the time of the alleged incident, was in Indianapolis to serve as a commentator for a Colts-Raiders game in 2025. Sanchez was let go by the network following the rest.

Sanchez was picked by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft out of USC. He played in the NFL from 2009-2018, spending time with six teams. The Denver Broncos acquired Sanchez in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016 following Peyton Manning's retirement.

After failing to win Denver's starting quarterback job that summer, Sanchez was cut by the Broncos. Sanchez then spent three more years in the NFL as a backup before retiring in 2019. He worked for ESPN and then Fox before the 2025 incident cost him his commentator role.
