Longhorns trio lands on Lombardi Award midseason watch list

· Yahoo Sports

Just days before their sixth game of the season, three Longhorns made national headlines. Rasheem Biles, Trevor Goosby, and Colin Simmons were named to the midseason Lombardi Award watch list on Tuesday. The honor is given annually to the linemen who best embody his values of leadership, courage, performance, and discipline on and off the field.Through the Longhorns first five games, Simmons has remained a model of excellence. The talented senior has recorded 17 total tackles and 9.5 sacks. With the regular season far from over, Simmons only needs 2.5 more sacks to match his total from his sophomore campaign.

As Simmons has made life difficult for opposing quarterbacks, Biles has helped as well. The talented linebacker has added 41 total tackles and one sack to his resume. He currently leads the team in total tackles, solo tackles, and interceptions. One of his best games came last week when he had over 10 tackles in the Red River Rivalry game.

With Biles and Simmons excelling on defense, Goosby has been a bright spot on offense. He has helped protect quarterback Arch Manning and opened up holes for running backs Raleek Brown and Hollywood Smoothers. As a Texas native, he has been one of the best players at his position; he has added SEC honors and an Outland Trophy National Player of the Week award to his trophy case.

Although the Longhorns trio are now in elite company, their focus is on bringing a national title to Austin. With Simmons, Biles, and Goosby all in vintage form, the possibility is high. Over the next few weeks, the Longhorns linemen will be players to watch as they boost their cases for the Lombardi Trophy while setting Texas up for a deep playoff run.

Texas is back in action on Saturday against a Florida team off to a 4-2 start.
