Atlanta went into the break with a two-point lead, 39-37.
The Dream could work on their efficiency, as they shot only 38% from the field.
The 24-year-old Reese has always been an intense competitor, even during her college days at LSU, and she surely won’t let up against the Valkyries, especially with her first championship in the WNBA within reach.
In Game 1, the three-time All-Star had 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting, a game-high 12 rebounds, two steals, and one block in 35 minutes. Reese admitted that she could have attacked the defense more.
“I don’t think they really did anything (to slow me down in the second half). Maybe that was just on me. I wasn’t aggressive enough with the ball. So, I’m definitely going to do a better job of that next game,” said Reese, adding that they have to go into the film room and review their shortcomings.
Reese’s first season with the Dream has been exceptional. She helped the team reach 30 wins and was named Defensive Player of the Year. She also led the league in rebounds and double-doubles.
