A change in the front office is often the harbinger of big changes for a team. So when the Indianapolis Colts fired long-time general manager Chris Ballard, fans around the league were suddenly put on notice. With the trade deadline looming in the distance, fans are waiting for a sign from the Colts: a sign that they’re going to let go this season and trade their stars.

The biggest catch is, of course, star running back Jonathan Taylor. A perennial Offensive Player of the Year contender, Taylor’s talents would be utilized well by other teams that are contending for a title. There are more than a few teams that should try to take a crack at the star running back.
Should the Colts trade Taylor?

The logical answer is no. Even if the Colts do end up in a rebuild, Taylor is still a valuable piece to a team and isn’t that old yet. At 27 years old, Taylor still has a few more years left in him. He could be a cornerstone for the future Colts offense moving forward.
That being said, a new GM might have a completely different vision for the team. The Colts might also value giving said GM more draft capital to pick their guys. While Taylor’s play has declined this season, his past pedigree and current circumstances indicate that he’s due to have a bounce-back soon, anyway.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks have not been having the title defense that they envisioned. They are currently 3-3 this season as their offense struggles to get off the ground. The absence of Zach Charbonnet, as well as Kenneth Walker’s departure this past offseason, has essentially defanged this unit. Without a consistent ground game, the high-flying Seattle offense hasn’t been able to get off the ground yet.
Charbonnet will be back soon, which is much-needed relief for the offense. They also drafted Jadarian Price this year, but the rookie has been less than inspiring to start his career. Trading for a bona fide running back as Taylor would do wonders for their title chances this year. They don’t exactly have the resources to trade with the Colts, but they’re still a name to monitor.
Cincinnati Bengals
Coming into the year, the Bengals were supposed to lean on their run game more this season. However, that hasn’t exactly been the case through the first six weeks of the season. Cincinnati still ranks toward the bottom of the league in terms of rushing attempts per game. Part of that is the inefficiency of their running backs: both Chase Brown and Samaje Perine have less than four yards per carry. Brown, in particular, has been rather disappointing to start the year, as his explosiveness has seemingly been sapped from him.
The Bengals would benefit from having another explosive playmaker on offense. Cincinnati is in a rare position to start the year, with their defense far outplaying their offense. They’ve already made one big move this season by trading for Dexter Lawrence. What’s another trade for another star player?
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are in a rather interesting spot this season. Against all odds, they are 6-0 to start the season and are in prime position to take control of their division. Minnesota’s defense has been the catalyst for their success so far this season, especially with their turbulent quarterback situation. Still, Kyler Murray is starting to find his groove, and this team seems ready to compete for a title this season.
Trading for Taylor would be an interesting development for the Vikings. Kevin O’Connell has never worked with a running back as dynamic as the Colts star, and he’ll bring an additional dimension to this team. Having a talented guy at running back might also free up Murray a bit and make his life easier.
