The 25-year-old shooting guard scored 45 points in a phenomenal display and lit up the court from all angles. He was easily the best player on the night.

One moment that has sparked debate is Edwards seemingly having a go at a player on Miami’s bench. He has now revealed what actually happened.

Anthony Edwards says trash talk from a Miami Heat player fired him up

Edwards can be unstoppable on a normal day, but when you try to get under his skin, it could make him even better.

That’s exactly what happened at the Kaseya Center on Wednesday night, as the Wolves star broke his own record for most points in a season opener in his team’s entire history.

After the game, Edwards was asked why he was so intense and yelling at somebody. He revealed that an opposing player was having a go at him from the Miami bench, which fired him up.

There are suggestions that the player in question may have been Myron Gardner, but Edwards claimed that he doesn’t even know his name.

He told Five Reasons Sports on X: “A player on their bench was talking trash in one of the dead-ball situations. I think it kinda crunk me up.

“He was talking pretty crazy. When I started talking to him, he didn’t have too much more to say. I don’t really like that. If you’re gonna talk s***, keep talking s***. Don’t get quiet. I think that was the reason I was super intense tonight.”

When asked if it was Gardner, he replied: “I don’t know his name.”

Edwards further stated that he loves stuff like this as it gets him going every time. That should perhaps be a lesson to opposing players going forward – just leave him alone!
