QB Alessio Milvojevic and RB Jaziun Patterson both out for MSU vs UCLA

Starting quarterback Alessio Milivojevic and running back Jaziun Patterson will not play as the Spartans take on the 12th-ranked Bruins at the Rose Bowl. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. (CBS).
Kayd Coffman will likely become the first true freshman to start at quarterback for MSU (2-5, 0-4) since Jeff Smoker in 2000. Smoker and Dave Yarema in 1982 are the only other true freshmen to get a start at QB in the past 45 years for the Spartans.
Along with Milivojevic, who has started MSU’s last 11 games, backup Cam Fancher is out for the game against UCLA (6-0, 4-0). Coffman, who led East Kentwood to the Michigan high school football Division 1 state semifinals last season, got his first 11 snaps as a college player late in MSU’s loss at Wisconsin after Fancher got hurt and left the game with an apparent knee injury.
With Patterson out, sophomore Marvis Parrish, a Western Kentucky transfer, and junior Brandon Tullis likely will get the bulk of the carries. Patterson, an Iowa transfer, got the starting job with the season-ending knee injury to Cam Edwards against Nebraska on Sept. 26.
Patterson has 327 yards on 76 carries with five touchdowns. Parrish has 33 carries for 96 yards and no scores, while Tullis has 10 carries for 49 yards.
Linebackers Brady Pretzlaff and Caleb Wheatland, along with left tackle Ben Murawski, are available to play after being listed as questionable after sitting out Saturday’s 24-21 loss to Northwestern.
The Spartans also will play again without linebacker and captain Jordan Hall for the fourth game this season. Cornerbacks Tre Bell, Tyran Chappell and Charles Brantley, and wide receiver Charles Taplin also are listed as out.
