Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) returns from a 13-month layoff following his September 2025 unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford, which ended his second reign as undisputed super middleweight champion. The 36-year-old Mexican superstar subsequently underwent elbow surgery and now looks to reclaim a world title in his first fight since that defeat.

Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KOs) enters as the reigning WBC champion and one of the division's most dangerous pressure fighters. The 31-year-old French-Cameroonian boxer was elevated to full champion following Crawford's retirement after previously capturing the interim belt with a first-round knockout of Maciej Sulecki. Mbilli last competed on the same September 2025 card, fighting Lester Martinez to a split draw.

For now, Canelo Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli remains scheduled for Saturday despite growing safety concerns surrounding the event in Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh has been targeted by a series of missile and drone attacks over the past several weeks, including strikes on King Khalid International Airport earlier this month that killed at least 13 people and injured hundreds more. The attacks have disrupted air travel and prompted the postponement of several other major sporting events in the Saudi capital.

On Oct. 21, the United States ordered non-emergency government employees and their families to leave Saudi Arabia. The ongoing security situation has also raised concerns among fighters, trainers and broadcast personnel involved in Saturday's event.

Among those affected is unbeaten super lightweight contender Lindolfo Delgado (24-0, 16 KOs), whose scheduled vacant IBF title fight against Arthur Biyarslanov (21-0, 17 KOs) is now expected to be canceled. Delgado's trainer, Robert Garcia, publicly questioned the safety of traveling to Riyadh, and neither he nor Delgado had made the trip as of Monday.

Fighters traveling to the event have been routed through an alternative airport before making an approximately five-hour drive to Riyadh, sources told Uncrowned’s Darshan Desai. DAZN has also arranged for some of its broadcast personnel to work remotely rather than travel to Saudi Arabia.

Despite the uncertainty, Alvarez is currently on the ground in Riyadh and organizers have maintained that Saturday's main event will proceed as scheduled.

Former super middleweight champion Jaime Munguia (46-2, 35 KOs) returns to action against unbeaten Russian contender Nikita Zon (12-0-1, 10 KOs) in one of the evening's featured bouts. Munguia looks to build on his May victory over Armando Resendiz as he works toward another world title opportunity.

WBO featherweight champion Rafael Espinoza (28-0, 24 KOs) also defends his title against Ricardo Blandon (21-6, 14 KOs). Blandon is a late replacement for originally scheduled challenger Lorenzo Parra.

Another notable matchup features David Picasso (33-1-1, 18 KOs) against undefeated Filipino contender Carl Jammes Martin (28-0, 21 KOs), while Japanese prospect Reito Tsutsumi (5-0, 4 KOs) meets Raymundo Rojas Garcia (16-2, 11 KOs) in a super featherweight bout.

Organizers are also exploring the possibility of keeping Biyarslanov on the card against a replacement opponent should his scheduled championship fight with Delgado officially fall through.

Canelo Alvarez (-260) enters Saturday's WBC super middleweight championship fight as the betting favorite against Christian Mbilli (+200).
