According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, league officials reportedly have no issue with how Philadelphia handled Hurts’ initial treatment in London. However, the team’s response to the controversy has frustrated league executives.

Marcus Hayes of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that a longtime source connected to NFL offices described the league’s officials, saying, “they’re furious” with Philadelphia’s communication.

The criticism comes after Hurts developed serious blood clot complications following the Eagles’ Week 5 trip to London. The quarterback was initially diagnosed with a superficial vein thrombosis before further testing revealed deep vein thrombosis and blood clots in his lungs.

“Jalen was initially diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis,” Eagles said in their public statement. “After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment should only involve anticoagulation (i.e., “blood thinners”).”

Philadelphia has relied on patient privacy while addressing the situation. However, questions remain about the medical timeline and the decisions surrounding Hurts’ participation in the London game.

Head coach Nick Sirianni has been the primary team representative answering questions about the situation. General manager Howie Roseman and the doctors who evaluated Hurts have not been made available to address the concerns.

Florio argued that the Eagles’ explanation has been insufficient, particularly after the team released statements containing specific medical details.

“Specific questions about how the initial condition arose, when it was diagnosed, how it was treated, and whether the complications flowed from those decisions are irrelevant at this point to the issue of privacy,” Florio wrote.

On Sunday, the NFL and NFL Players Association announced they “are working together to review the matter.” As of now, the scope and structure of that review remain unclear. Meanwhile, the union faces pressure to ensure the review produces meaningful answers rather than simply protecting the league or the team.

Meanwhile, the Eagles face the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night with backup QB Tanner McKee. The controversy adds another challenge for Philadelphia as questions about its handling of Hurts continue to grow.
