Jalen Suggs has avoided a major injury after all.
The Orlando Magic guard went down with a non-contact knee injury in their win over the New York Knicks on Sunday night. But an MRI on Monday revealed Suggs only suffered a "mild bone bruise" in his right knee, the team announced. As a result, he will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

While that's still a significant stretch, it's far better than the season-ending injury many had feared after seeing him go down. Suggs avoided any major structural damage to the knee, per the team.

Suggs suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of last night’s game at New York.
Suggs went up for what should have been an easy fast-break layup at Madison Square Garden in the fourth quarter of their 111-102 win on Sunday night. But as he went up, his right knee buckled.
Suggs fell to the ground after missing the shot. Immediately he reached for his knee and started rolling around in pain underneath the basket. He remained down for quite some time, but was eventually helped up and limped off the court while barely putting any weight on his leg.
NOT what the Magic needed. Jalen Suggs goes down clutching his right knee going up for a layup without contact. @DanteMagic and Jeff Turner were right on it to not speculate the injury. But not good for the Magic who have terrible injury luck pic.twitter.com/dGyAB6D7Cd

The Magic didn't have an update on Suggs' condition after the game. Coach Sean Sweeney was hopeful he just hyperextended his knee and said Suggs was in good spirits after the contest.
Suggs finished with four points, six rebounds and six assists in the win. The former No. 5 overall pick is in his sixth season. He averaged 13.8 points and 5.5 assists per game last season while helping the Magic reach the playoffs for a third straight year.
Despite losing Suggs and star Paolo Banchero already out with an ankle sprain, the Magic held on to beat the Knicks on Sunday night to secure their first win of the season. They are now 1-2 entering Wednesday's contest against the Toronto Raptors in Canada.
But losing Suggs will undoubtedly make things much more difficult for the Magic as the season gets going.
