When it comes to catching criminals in record time, you just can’t beat a Florida K-9 and his nose, who helped lead authorities to a burglary suspect minutes after arriving at the scene last week.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that last Thursday, a person reported a burglar dressed in all black clothing using a screwdriver to break into his vehicle before fleeing on foot.

Deputies secured the area and set up a perimeter, with a K-9 team, which the sheriff’s office identified as Deputy Hunter and K-9 Magz, searching the area.

“In less than five minutes, the K-9 team found the suspect, thanks to Magz’s nose, a secure perimeter, and helpful citizens who pointed us toward where they saw a man running,” the sheriff’s office said.

Body camera footage shows the deputy and K-9 tracking the burglary suspect, locating an iPad and a flashlight in a commercial area in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The video cuts to the duo running to the back of a business where a man wearing a black baseball cap backwards, black sunglasses and black clothes is allegedly in the midst of stealing items from a van.

“Hands up, idiot! On the ground! Do it now!” the deputy shouts at the man who’s holding up his hands.

“On the ground or get bit!” the deputy orders.

The man quickly complies, lying prone on the pavement, saying, “I’m on the ground, boss. I wasn’t going through the van.”

Another deputy arrives at the scene and handcuffs the man, whom the sheriff’s office identified as 28-year-old Matthew Christianson.

“During the investigation, deputies determined he had broken into five additional vehicles in the area,” the sheriff’s office said.
