The Detroit Lions have two marquee players on the Week 8 injury report, including running back Jahmyr Gibbs and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

According to the team’s Wednesday injury report, St. Brown is listed with an ankle issue while Gibbs has a shoulder injury. Neither player took part in practice.

St. Brown was not a surprise, as head coach Dan Campbell revealed on Monday he would not take part in the team’s first practice this week. Campbell did say, however, that St. Brown would likely practice on Thursday.

As for Gibbs, he’s a total surprise. The Lions running back was not known to be dealing with any injury in the wake of the Week 7 win over the Green Bay Packers.

Gibbs did have a scary moment at the end of the game when he slid down and his leg bent awkwardly, but he came out of it OK and Campbell said there was no concern there.

It’s way too early in the week to panic about either player, and especially St. Brown, who is as tough as they come and has shown he can play through pretty much anything.

Meanwhile, Gibbs is tough as nails, also, and hasn’t missed a game since his rookie season in 2023.

What if Gibbs and St. Brown sit out?

If St. Brown can’t go, the Lions are going to need more out of guys like Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa. Williams would serve as the WR1 in that situation, while TeSlaa would be moved up to the No. 2 role.

Aside from those guys, the Lions also have Tay Martin and DeAndre Carter on the 53-man roster and Dominic Lovett and Lucky Jackson on the practice squad.

Carter would probably get the most significant push of the three considering his advantage in experience. Carter has tallied 117 receptions for 1,331 yards and six touchdowns over nine seasons in the NFL.

At running back, there would likely be a timeshare between Sione Vaki and Jacob Saylors if Gibbs is forced to sit.

Vaki would probably handle the majority of the passing-game work while Saylors would be the preferred option on the ground.
