Tucker served a 10-game NFL suspension in 2025 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy following allegations of sexual misconduct made by numerous massage therapists. Tucker has strongly denied the allegations.
The Chiefs’ decision drew criticism from Kansas City media members adding to the attention regarding Tucker’s return to the NFL.
However, the reaction also raises questions about how consistently the league handles players who have faced allegations, suspensions or legal issues. Several players have returned to the field or joined new teams after facing similar scrutiny, making the debate surrounding Tucker part of a larger conversation about transparency in the NFL.
From the Chiefs’ perspective, the signing could also be a move to address their kicking concerns. Tucker has built a reputation as one of the most accomplished kickers in NFL history, making him an option worth considering from a football standpoint.
Still, the decision comes with plenty of outside attention. Reid’s short response did little to put the controversy to rest, and the Chiefs will likely continue to face questions about their decision as Tucker begins his stint with the team.
