The Batman Part 2 Understands 'Bruce Wayne's Psychology' in a Way That Hasn't Been Seen Before, Robert Pattinson Says

The Batman Part 2 star Robert Pattinson has teased that Matt Reeves' long-awaited sequel has "an understanding of Bruce Wayne and Batman's psychology" that he doesn't "think has been seen before."

The face behind the mask of Gotham's Caped Crusader continued to lure in audiences with an interview shared by BAFTA yesterday. With filming back on track as The Batman Part 2 glides toward its early 2028 release date, Pattinson said its story will dive into Bruce Wayne's mind in a way that movies, shows, and maybe even comics have yet to explore.

"Still some ways to go, and the new script is… it's just amazing," he said. "It's just another completely different world.

"It's just an understanding of Bruce Wayne and Batman's psychology in a way that I don't think has been seen before. You know, when there's been hundreds and thousands of comics and so many different interpretations of the same character, it's like… it feels enormous, but really unusual, and unusual in a different way to the first one."

That's high praise from Pattinson, who helped deliver an already fresh take on Batman when he first starred as the DC comic book superhero in 2022. Reeves' vision of Gotham's grimy streets – and villain The Riddler (Paul Dano) – explored a quiet-but-edgy Bruce Wayne who eventually learned that vengeance won't change the past.

How The Batman Part 2 will examine a nearly 100-year-old character remains to be seen, but Pattinson is optimistic that the crew behind the flick has a few cards up its sleeve. Elsewhere in the interview, when recalling the days leading up to his involvement in The Batman, he said, "It's kind of universally acknowledged fact that Batman is the coolest superhero by a million miles." That's why he chose to make Batman his first foray into the superhero movie genre, and why he doesn't plan to hang up the cowl anytime soon.

"When I first read the script," Pattinson said, remembering the process for the 2022 movie, "I was just thinking, 'Oh, there's something so immediately inspiring about it.' Batman's been reinvented so many times, and it's such an unusual reinvention, just in terms of the atmosphere of the movie.

"I really connected to it. It's just been one of those unbelievable experiences to shoot it, and I just want to keep doing it for as long as I can."

Following behind-the-scenes issues that saw Reeves take a small step back as Ocean's 11 director Steven Soderbergh stepped in for assistance, The Batman Part 2 is still on track to premiere February 18, 2028. Pattinson called Soderbergh "completely selfless" for lending a hand.
