This was the first time in a while that the Catalan club had the financial flexibility to make moves, and they brought in the likes of Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rodri and Joao Cancelo.
Barça‘s decision to sign Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund is looking like a piece of extremely smart transfer business.
The German winger has given Flick another dangerous attacking option, and he has made an impressive start to life in Catalonia.
Now, according to Diario SPORT, Barcelona had originally planned to sign Adeyemi on a free transfer in the summer of 2027.
However, it was Hansi Flick who played a key role in the Catalan club bringing the deal forward by one year.
Why Barcelona changed their plans for Adeyemi
The German manager knew his countryman very well from their time together with the German national team.
Flick understood Adeyemi’s potential and believed that his pace and directness could add another dimension to Barcelona’s attack.

Barça initially wanted to sign the 24-year-old without paying a transfer fee, a trick they have used to good effect in the past.
However, Dortmund had warned the player that refusing to renew could leave him spending his final season without regular football.
Meanwhile, Ferran’s move to PSG created an opening for Barcelona in attack, and Flick decided to use Adeyemi to fill the gap.
Flick’s faith is already paying off
It is still early days, but the decision seems to be paying off.
Before the Alaves match, Adeyemi had registered four goals and three assists in just 452 minutes across 13 appearances.

Despite not always being a starter for Flick, the German attacker has found a way to be productive in front of goal.
His explosive running has made him a suitable alternative to Anthony Gordon, and the duo have covered the left flank very well.
Considering the amount Barcelona spent to bring Adeyemi to the club, the potential upside of the deal was always going to be high.
Adeyemi is already looking like an excellent signing made possible by Hansi Flick, and it remains to be seen how his Barcelona career progresses.
