The Los Angeles Lakers ended their short winless streak following a 131-125 victory over the Toronto Raptors.

Luka Doncic carried the Lakers on his back with 45 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists in 35 minutes of playing time.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Austin Reaves’ performance, who scored 19 points but shot a terrible 6-of-16 from the field. Reaves has been going through a slump as he also had eight turnovers in each of his last two games.

JJ Redick drops a message for Austin Reaves amid early-season struggles

Lakers head coach JJ Redick addressed Reaves’ current struggles in the postgame conference after defeating the Raptors.

“A lot of it is second body, right? A lot of the turnovers are second-body, could be a pass to the roller, and there’s the roll man that the low man is there, and the reach should have been out to the three-point shooter in the corner,” Redick said.

He added, “So a lot of it is just making the right read, because he is drawing second defenders consistently, sometimes a third defender consistently. So it’s just making those read progressions, which I talk to him about. Bo is on him every day about that stuff.

“So continue to get better there with that. And then some of it truthfully is just figuring it out with new teammates.”

Considering the Lakers have made some major changes to their roster in the offseason, Redick isn’t worried about Reaves’ early-season turnovers.

However, the sooner it gets resolved, the better. After all, Reaves’ struggles are forcing Doncic to put in extra effort early in the season, and this could cost the team in the latter half of the campaign.
