The two men were in a 2012 Kia Sorento SUV that was traveling south on Texas 46 "at a high rate of speed," when the driver lost control, according to police officials.

The vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a guardrail, according to police.

In a statement released Monday, the university confirmed the deaths of the two students.
